Racking inspections across the UK

An inspection helps you find damage, check the condition of your racking and decide what needs attention. We inspect warehouse storage and report on repairs, load information and other issues that could affect its use. Checks cover loading and signs of damage or wear. Our SEMA-approved inspectors follow recognised racking inspection guidance.
We use the red, amber and green damage categories in HSE guidance to explain what action is needed:
- Red: Serious damage: unload the affected racking immediately and keep it out of use until it has been repaired.
- Amber: Damage needing repair: arrange repairs as soon as possible. Once goods have been removed, do not reload until repaired. If it remains unrepaired after four weeks, treat it as red.
- Green: Damage within the limits for continued use: record it, monitor it and check it again at future inspections.
We look for impact damage, overloading and wear. We can also work with your Person Responsible for Racking Safety (PRRS) to plan the next steps.
You receive a report identifying the issues and their priority. We can provide a free quote for any repairs needed.
HSE guidance calls for an expert inspection at intervals of no more than 12 months. Acrow recommends at least two inspections a year, with the frequency informed by your site’s risk assessment. We can keep track of your next inspection and send a reminder.

Checks between expert inspections
Regular internal checks help you spot problems early. HSE guidance recommends a reporting system and visual checks alongside expert inspections.
- Report damage promptly: Ask staff to report damage as soon as they see it, and keep a record so the person responsible can assess what action is needed.
- Carry out visual checks: Set a checking frequency based on the risks at your site. Weekly checks, or other regular intervals identified by your risk assessment, should be recorded. We can help you plan them.
- Arrange expert inspections: A technically competent person should inspect the racking at intervals of no more than 12 months. Acrow can arrange these inspections for your site.
